Tether bought 14 tonnes of gold with $1.5 billion in Q2 profits — not because gold is a hedge, but because stablecoins generate more cash than most mid-cap corporates and there are only so many Treasury bills you can park it in. When your business model is collecting float on dollar deposits you never have to redeem all at once, gold is just variance reduction on the balance sheet. The reserve build says less about Tether's view on inflation than about how much money flows through unregulated dollar tokens every quarter.
