The Hormuz closure is now five months old. Strategic reserves exist to buy time for policy solutions — they've had seventeen weeks. Every barrel drawn now is a barrel unavailable when this ends badly, and reopening a strait is faster than refilling a reserve. The question is no longer whether supplies run low, but what governments do when they actually run out.
