Itaú waited until the licensing door was closing to walk through it. Brazil's new crypto framework requires every firm that holds or moves crypto for customers to register by year-end. The bank filed for intermediation and custody rights — the same permissions granted to brokerages — days before the deadline. The substance is separation: regulated custody means client assets stay off the bank's balance sheet. The timing says Itaú watched the regulatory perimeter form before committing to operate inside it.
