The US is draining the SPR to its lowest level in 43 years while 10 to 14 million barrels per day remain locked behind the Strait of Hormuz and approximately 2,000 ships sit stranded in the Gulf. Strategic reserves exist to bridge temporary disruptions — not to paper over structural supply loss with inventory you cannot replace.
