Thornton is right that central banks are buying gold while dumping government bonds — they added 1,037 tonnes in 2025 alone, the third straight year above 1,000. What he doesn't say: they're doing it because dollar reserves earn 4.68% while losing 3.53% to inflation, and the only exit that doesn't crater your currency is the one asset no central bank can print.
