DW NOTE
Central banks bought 1,037 tonnes of gold in 2024 — the second-highest year on record after 2022. The pattern is clear: when the Strait of Hormuz closes, when U.S. deficits hit $1.8 trillion in ten months, when the dollar becomes a foreign policy weapon, reserve managers do not diversify into euros or yen. They buy the asset with no counterparty and no chairman.
