The UK banned new oil and gas licensing in October 2024. Twenty months later, with WTI at $82 and Brent at $88 — both up 15% this week on Middle East supply fears — Burnham will reverse it. The policy was always gestural: Britain imports 38% of its gas and can't decarbonise by blocking North Sea development while buying LNG shipped from Qatar.
