The Netherlands repatriated $10 billion in gold from New York this week — half its US holdings. Central banks don't move physical bullion across the Atlantic for portfolio rebalancing. They do it when counterparty risk stops being theoretical. With the Strait of Hormuz blocked for 188 days, the Fed's balance sheet north of $9 trillion, and US debt spiraling past $41 trillion, Amsterdam wants its bars within rifle range of its own vaults.
