DW NOTE
A $25 billion Alaska LNG project secretly financed and controlled by Novatek — a Russian state-adjacent energy giant under U.S. sanctions since 2014 — was apparently green-lit by someone in Washington who either didn't notice or didn't care. The former CEO is now telling the FT what should have been obvious from the capital structure alone. With Hormuz shut and U.S. LNG the only flexible supply left, ceding operational control of strategic export infrastructure to Moscow is the kind of decision that looks worse every time a tanker burns in the Gulf.
