DW NOTE
The Bank of England stores its gold in London. Russia repatriated most of its reserves after 2014. Germany moved 674 tonnes home from New York and Paris between 2013 and 2017. Physical location matters when sanctions travel faster than bullion shipments. Gold at $4,008 — down 25% from its January peak — still buys the same optionality it did at $5,318: the option not to trust someone else's vault.
