The US imposed sectoral sanctions on Venezuela in 2017 and an oil embargo in 2019. Eight years later, GDP is still 70% of its 2013 level and hyperinflation has destroyed the bolivar. The sanctions demonstrably failed to dislodge Maduro and succeeded only in making Venezuelans poorer. Lifting them now won't "help" recovery—it will stop actively preventing it.
