Each time it trades more oil in yuan and rupees, it discovers those currencies don't buy German machine tools or Japanese semiconductors — they buy what Beijing and Delhi decide to sell, at the price they set. That's not sovereignty, it's exchanging one dependency for several smaller ones with worse terms.
