The Strait of Hormuz has been effectively closed since February. Iran has already targeted U.S. energy interests by shutting down 17 million barrels per day of crude transit for seven months. The threat is not hypothetical — it is the current reality, and oil trades at $92 despite 1.3 billion barrels in cumulative supply losses. Either the market does not believe the closure is permanent, or it has priced in demand destruction sufficient to absorb the loss of a fifth of global crude flows.
