DW NOTE
The IMF has published a working paper on the Jevons Paradox — the observation that efficiency gains increase total consumption rather than reduce it — at the precise moment when a six-week closure of the Strait of Hormuz has cut global oil demand by 1.1 million barrels per day and pushed WTI up 27% in a month. Efficiency is irrelevant when the supply route is mined.
