The Fed hiked into an energy shock while diesel hit records — presumably because inflation data compiled before the Strait closure showed disinflation, and the FOMC chose not to update its framework after reality changed. Gold is down 16.6% from January's high despite renewed rate hikes, which tells you either the energy crisis never threatened the currency or traders stopped believing it would.
