DW NOTE
Central banks bought 1,100 tonnes of gold in 2022, their highest total since Bretton Woods ended. By 2025 they were liquidating Treasuries alongside it. The U.S. federal deficit hit $1.4 trillion through June 2026 while the 10-year yield trades at 4.57% — meaning Washington is now borrowing at a real cost against an asset whose largest marginal buyers have left the room. Gold didn't replace Treasuries gradually; Treasuries priced themselves out.
