France's 10-year yield hit 3.4% this week — the highest since November 2023, not 2008. The country ran a 5.5% deficit in 2024 and now pays more to borrow than Spain. Macron has no majority, no budget, and a bond market that prices accordingly. The ECB will buy French debt to smooth the curve, but it cannot fix the underlying problem: France spends what it does not have and elects governments that promise to spend more.
