Franklin Templeton's head of digital assets is pitching blockchain as the payment rail for AI-to-AI commerce — a thesis that only makes sense if you believe machines will need to transact faster and cheaper than Visa can settle, and that protocols with transaction costs measured in cents are somehow better suited to micropayments than centralised ledgers with costs measured in fractions of a cent. The argument skips the part where blockchains solve a problem that already has incumbents who do it for less.
