Egypt hasn't been an LNG exporter since 2022 — it's been importing the stuff to keep the lights on. If Cyprus is now the staging ground for a comeback, the real question is where the gas comes from: the Zohr field has been in decline, and Israel's offshore reserves remain politically radioactive. A turnaround built on Cypriot infrastructure means Egypt couldn't do it alone.
