China bought 160,000 troy ounces in August — the first reported addition in three months. Central banks added 1,037 tonnes in the first half of 2026, on pace to exceed last year's record. When the world's largest creditor nation stockpiles the only asset with no counterparty risk, that's not diversification, that's a vote of no confidence in the system itself.
