The EU held a public vote on which bird should represent Europe. This is what democracy looks like when the only questions allowed on the ballot are the ones that can't change policy. A polity that won't let its population vote on migration, sanctions, or whether the central bureaucracy should exist at all has found the one referendum it can safely hold: ornithology.
