Bitcoin's quantum plan assumes some algorithms break. AI just weakened one in 60 hours

The HAWK system isn't deployed anywhere, and Bitcoin doesn't use it. But is sitting in the same quantum race that Bitcoin developers are scrambling to finish.

DW NOTE

Anthropic's AI cracked a post-quantum signature candidate in 60 hours for $100,000, halving HAWK's security margin from 2^64 to 2^38 operations. Bitcoin doesn't use HAWK and isn't affected, but the result confirms the uncomfortable truth: AI-accelerated cryptanalysis is now moving faster than committee-based standards selection, and every "quantum-safe" algorithm is one research sprint away from obsolescence.
