The physical oil market is calling the bluff: dated Brent at $154 while futures trade $50 lower tells you buyers will pay any premium for barrels that actually exist. The SPR closed September at 283 million barrels — lowest since 1982 — and Washington is now doing exchange deals that require the oil back later, which is not a release, it's a loan against a reserve you've already spent.
